Superman is a movie that came out in 1978 based on the DC Comics character of the same name, created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Schuster in 1938. Directed by Richard Donner, the movie follows Superman (played by Christopher Reeve) growing up in Smallville, Kansas, and moving to Metropolis, where he works at the Daily Planet newspaper with Lois Lane (Margot Kidder). Superman starts fighting crime in the city, all while the villainous Lex Luthor (Gene Hackman) with his henchmen, Otis and Miss Tessmacher, is putting a nefarious plan in motion.

I love this movie for so many reasons. First off, Christopher Reeve just is Superman. From his mannerism to the way he speaks, Reeve just embodies the character beautifully. I can say the same about Margot Kidder as Lois, as well. Not only does Kidder portray the tenacity of the character of Lois Lane. Gene Hackman as Lex Luthor is a fun, moustache-twirling villain. His evil plan is equally as fun and ridiculous. His plan is to use a nuclear missile he stole from the U.S. Army to fire at the San Andreas fault to sink the California coast into the ocean, leading to his land in California suddenly becoming coast front and the property value to skyrocket.

There is so much to love about this movie, a lot more than what I’ll talk about here. If you want to watch this great movie, it is currently on Amazon Prime.
